To further enhance the relaxing effects, try adding some Lemon Balm or Chamomile, or both!
My all-time favourite bloom is the stunningly fluorescent orange California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica). California poppies have been used as a medicinal tea by Native American for centuries . It is best known as a nervine, a soothing tonic that supports the nervous system, helping to ease stress and tension. Drinking this as a tea can help to:
promote relaxation
ease stress and anxiety
promote restful sleep
improve mood
ease depression
reduce menstrual cramps
ease exhaustion
ease nerve pain including toothache
ease symptoms of arthritis
... the list goes on!
Note* Unlike Opium poppies, California poppies and not addictive and are not an opiate. As with any herbal decoction or remedy, it is always best to consult with your GP before taking, especially if pregnant.
California Poppies are easy to grow in the garden and generally bloom from May to October. They are also self-seeding and so should come back readily each year. You can also buy dried California Poppies and have them as a Tizane or even as a tincture which can be taken in your water or juice.
This tea has really worked for me when I’ve felt stressed, overwhelmed and especially when I’ve struggled with the grip of insomnia. I hope they work for you too!
Much love,
Flow x
